Private Residence - Noosaville

Located one of Noosaville's idyllic canal blocks, this visually exciting residence highlights the benefits of thoughtful product selection and versatility offered by today's aluminium windows and doors. G.James was able to provide the builder, AD Williams Construction, with the expertise and products required to allow the owners realise their dream lifestyle.

From the outset, the design brief demanded a number of things from the windows and doors. Firstly, take full advantage of the natural light and ventilation, secondly, capitalise on the fantastic canal views and surrounding pool area, and thirdly ensure the straight line geometry of the house is maintained with the aluminium framing.

With this criteria in mind, G.James was able to supply the following products:

Large 'narrow style' fixed panels were incorporated within this 6.5 metre square steel portal frame to create this visually stunning 'centre piece'. Once glazed, the frame was then clad with flashings to provide an overall clear anodised finish. Extending over two levels, this outstanding glass facade features a 'flush face' glazing system which has been effectively used to accentuate the dwellings clean lines and capture uninterrupted views of the canal.

2 sets of single-side stacking, 6 leaf bi-fold doors were used to form a functional, open living space between the pool area, kitchen and canal front. Maximising cross-flow ventilation was an added benefit of this arrangement.

A huge 2.6 x 1.7 mtr front entry door creates a bold' first impression. Dorma floor springs incorporated into a commercial grade pivot door frame fitted with bi-fold hardware and customer preferred handle.

The combination of fixed panels with adjustable louvres (in the sitting room and hallway areas) combine to achieve a frame height of 4.1 mtrs while heavy duty sliding doors and louvre window highlights (in the sitting room) create a 4.3 mtr high glazed area. All these windows maximise natural light and ventilation while also allowing the owners to enjoy their surroundings.

Glass:
The owners nominated 6mm grey tinted glass to be used throughout. Their selection was based on: colour matching with the clear anodised frame finish; its ability to reduce glare (from the canal and pool), and grey's lower Solar Heat Gain Co-efficient (SHGC) (as the house is fully air conditioned).
