Well not exactly the start we were after but it gives us a good idea of our strengths and weaknesses.
A new team a new season and obviously coming together as a team was an issue on the night
Not unhappy with the first half, although it we were two nil down. Up front we showed great strength through the middle with Steve Sawyer and Lee Oliver feeding Cameron at centre forward. Issac, James and David proved handy in the inside positions.
A few opportunities for Cameron and Steve but unfortunately no luck. Once again our corner option to Lee proved very effective nearly resulting in a goal to even the score.
Some good calling and direction from our illustrious Captain Frank Coman held our backs in pretty good field position.
What the!!!?
The game plan went out the window as did our fitness and we were flogged.
Frank and Damien tried desperately to keep the defence in order but our general defence and tackling was appalling throughout the field. We were flat in defence and flat footed in tackling.
Nearly everyone of our defensive hits went to straight to the opposition, which is not just from poor hits but lack of leading from the midfield and forwards.
Great speed and strength shown be David on left wing and by Lee combining through Shane on to Cameron on the right.
Overall
Thankyou to everyone for showing great strength and pride in your team You all played for 70 minutes even after we were down. That shows courage and we couldn’t ask for more.
This was only the first game of the season ( 20 more to go) and we were probably playing one of the top teams so don’t be disheartened.
We had a number of our key defensive player out and this surely made a difference.
