v Storm 4-0
1st Half
I visited the judiciary early while Colin and Greg umpired the game before ours. We needed one extra player to make 11 (Thanks Wes for filling in again). Storm are always interesting to play, without Dennis in the net they actually have a good defence and we struggled getting past Andrew (from Strikers) as he was pulling some saves right out of the proverbial. He had a magnificent game - and he normally doesn't play in the net.
We started the scoring with a on-drive from the top from Graeme Wallace who continues to play well as the right inside - I reluctantly gave up the position so I didn't have to run so much! Steve Sawyers went on to score the first of his two with a neat field goal. Plenty of practice at penalty corners and soon we should be able to trap one........what happens after that? I managed to land a scoop on the top of the net - apparantly that doesn't count. Steve hit the crossbar - this was all before Graeme Wallace decided to hit it along the ground to score his goal - good thinking that.
Half time score 2-0.
2nd Half
Ian Wells was keen to keep a clean sheet in this game so he played like a man possessed - a fullbacks job from the old days - ball, man etc. but never together (or in one piece if it comes to that). Rick continues to keep well and actually had to go fetch the ball from the sideline at one stage to keep warm.
Bruce snuck in the next goal from what I claim was a pass (may have been a shot though), he stuck out his stick and it went in. Steve then scored his second all by himself, not after enough tries though - we need to talk about the tomahawks! (Steve works on quantity of shots - not always at the net though) Took one right off my forestick the bugger - it was my chance to get a goal! In the meanwhile Andrew (their keeper) continued to thwart our attempts. A great ball from the right wing (Hammo had ushered me back to right half as he was getting bored - he needs very little encouragement to attack) to Steve in the left of the net saw Steve miss when the keeper saved it in the air with his stick.
At times this game threatened to turn out like the last time we played with bodies lying about the field. Colin Sheppard came on for a brief moment for them as left half, muttered something about hating playing left half - moved into the attack and then straight off into the arms of the waiting first-aid man (it was more fun last week Col when the first-aid was administered by the young lass (Remember Steve's arm - it was his groin by the time he got to the firstaid)).
Fulltime score 4-0.
Injuries
We got thought without any at all - Iain Wicking returns from knee problems in two weeks. and Ray Malyon will help out next week while John is holidaying.
