v Valleys (27/03/02) 1-8

1^st Half

Couldn't scrounge a goal keeper this time, Gordon couldn't make it and John was a semi-reluctant volunteer (and damned with faint praise at the end - he at least let in fewer then I did some years ago). Within 4 minutes we were down 1 nil and continued to have penalty corners converted for the first half. Down 6 nil at the break and not looking good. We only had nine of our own men, with Steve, Greg and Shayne out. Valleys kindly lent us two players for the duration and we owe them our thanks. Naturally we came up against their strongest side with John Campbell making a return after two years absence - damn him! I had several opportunities to score in this half but ultimately didn't test the keeper at all.

2^nd Half

Good start the the second half - we were then down 7 nil within a few minutes. From the restart we attacked and got a penalty corner which was converted by Owen (only our second corner for the game). We started to make some inroads into their defence (as half their backline was now playing for us - thanks copper). We had several more opportunities to put the ball in the net but failed to make the most of our chances. Bruce was constantly beating one defensive tackle but we couldn't get to his aid as we were often recovering from deep defense. Lets not forget Bruces' shot that hit the corner post - ie, the corner post in the right hand corner of the field - not the goal upright. (it was a narrow angle though).
