A solid start. We worked effectively in small units to give us good field position when Doug Steve and Lee combined to put us in scoring position. Lee showed good skill to pop a shot over the keeper only to hit the cross bar but Isaac who played in good position all night was on the ball to clean it up and put it away. It shows how important it is to follow shots for the rebound and if Isaac had not, they would have cleared the ball.

Our backs were once again solid in defense and I’m happy with the constant improvement, however we are not improving on our 16s.

Mick made some great saves and Lindsay in particular was fantastic off the bench showing the desperation that we need. Adam made some good attacking runs from the circle to get us out of trouble and both Frank and Andrew were exceptional in marking their man.

It was good to hear the guys from the bench calling plays and helping the player mark their man.

We forced many corners which was outstanding and Andrew managed to slide one in the right corner for the tie.

This is about when we lost our way and we started to choose the wrong options. On the right we were running the ball too much with Lee and Steve showing exceptional skills only to loose possession once they had beaten two or three players. We need to be aware of our own players and once we have beaten 1 or two at best get rid of the ball and get in a position to receive it.

We had the ball on the left in space only to choose the option of crossing it to the right across their defense a number of times. This comes from desperation and we need to maintain the focus for the full 70 mins.

I want everybody to be aware of the clock and know how much time there is left. With two to go we were walking and not showing any sign of trying to win the game. With 30 seconds to go,we had an opportunity to move the ball up the field but took too long, the defense got set, they countered and forced a corner on the whistle. It takes that long.

All teams are close guys and I can tell you this, there will be no easy games and we will have to fight for every point. Our goals are to score first and to score three. Do this and we will win most games.
