Norths Under 13s Report Saturday 26th of June

For this game we had 14 players, with James Battams, Drew and Issac playing off the bench. Our regular keeper, Nick, was away but Corrie stood in.

We had some good moments when things clicked and others that were not very good. Corrie produced some great saves during the first half and kept us in the game. We failed to close down some good attack and they scored towards the end of the first half and we went into the break at 0-1 down.

A little chat about commitment and ensuring we channeled users out wide and did forestick tackles at the half break did little to stop them scoring three goals in about 2 minutes after the restart. We failed to mark, failed to tackle and simply let in simple goals – we failed to reignite at the break and suddenly we ere down 1-4 with 27 minutes to go. To the boys' credit they got back into the game with some smart passing but we continued to turn over possession and then failed to clear well which cost us dearly as you cannot win games or even compete if you give the ball away.

The fifty fifty contests were poorly contested and were more likely close to 20-80 contests. The need to bend our backs, hold our sticks correctly and even know what the umpires signalling are important and so I need to touch on the basics again. How to hold the stick, how to bend, how to tackle, what set pieces are and how they are signalled. We'll get there – today was a bad day at the office.

Some more commitment on Thursday to practice and some 'heart' on the field should see us get into the final four but to compete with the others we have to stay with the plan and sharpen our skills and this needs more practice at HOME!

Levies

A turf levy for all teams that play and train on artificial turf (Colmslie and Kedron Wavell/ Burringbah) will be imposed this year. The cost of the levy will be finalised and the players in the teams that play on this surface will be required to pay this levy by the commencement of the games.
