Match Report
Opposition: Bulimba
Date: 22-Jun-2004
Time: 9:20pm
The LATE game and it was late to start too. Just before the game I discovered that we only had 7 players thus leaving us a little short. Col Morley was into his second bourbon and coke so he volunteered, Kathy the commercial goalie decided she'd have her first game on the field as a player, Wes the goal keeper from Easts decided he could play on the other wing and during the match Gill Straayer joined out little band after he'd played and umpired. So, our team consisted of 3 goalies, Col Morley and his bourbon and a tired Gill plus the seven of us. Did I mention that our keeper has lost his glasses and can't see much.......
We started pretty poorly and spent the first 10 minutes missing traps – I spent the first 30 minutes missing traps. Kathy our left winger goal keeper almost scored a goal and they replied by scoring one that dribbled past Ricky and Ray and over the line - not sure if it made it to the back board – I don't think it did. We replied with a goal from our right winger goal keeper, I think Wes scores a goal for us everytime he plays which is a bonus. Col Morley was playing well and delivering some good passes that we mostly missed.
1st half.
Half time score 1–1
Pretty quiet at half-time. (we didnt want to give any secrets away as we're
playing commercial next week and 1/3rd of their team was with us). Or perhaps
it was because we didn't have a plan. Trapping was mentioned once or twice as
I remember and the need to stick to our usual game plan PLUS some suggestion
about lynching those players that didn't turn up.
2nd Half
We needed a goal to get a role on - so we let them get ahead 2-1 with an
amazing shot that left most of the defence thinking "what the hell". Ricky
was still trying to focus when their winger hit a ball on the fly at an impossible angle straight into the net. Oh shit, for the first time this season we'd gone
behind twice in the same game! Panic didnt set in and our game did improve until
we dominated play. Getting in behind their defence was difficult, 11 in the
circle leaves you with getting corners and we kept missing our options @ndash; Wayne finally slotted a corner to get us back level with 8 minutes to go. We then
pushed hard for the winner but simply couldn't get the last pass to stick and
it all finished up square.
General comment is that we played like crap, took the wrong options, didn't
link up well, didn't trap well (or at all in my case) and simply lost control
as the worst of moments.
Final Score 2–2.
