Match Report

Opposition: S.W.U.

Date: 20-Jul-2004

Time: 8:10pm

No chance of us havin 11 players but we conjured up 10 and borrowed Cathy from Commercial to play on the wing.

Still got the practise balls! Good ol'd Wes had them behind the counter PLUS I got some of Peter Campbells too (the ones that went down the drain on the 2nd field). Don't tell Peter!

1st half.

We got out to a 2 goal lead fairly quickly into the half. We were playing well in patches but made the mistake of pressing to high in defence and they sneaked an attack in that led to a penalty corner from which they scored. In fact, we've been letting in goals from corners a little to frequently of late – something we need to sort out. People are scoring against us the same way we do against them from the defensive right post. We got another goal (from Steve) and went into the break at 3-2 up. Nothing much of note happened during the half, Cathy was getting closer to scoring, she moved on from a couple of weeks ago from hitting defenders in the chest with the ball to hitting the post with the ball.

Half time score 3–2

No panic at the break - just keep moving it around.

2nd Half

Bloody Steve went onto get his hat-trick in this half. I've been quiet of late due to a lack of scoring – something that Steve hasn't been giving me a hard time about (not). The last of his goals was a great team effort (at least Im think it was the last ..........note to me. Dont wait five days before writing the match report!) which he was involved in at the beginning and completed with a neat push into the net thanks to a Hammett (he of the sore hand) cross. (shit, I think that was in the first half). The best part of this game came in this half when Cathy scored a great goal off their fullback and keeper - she went to pass it across the front of the net and it was intercepted by their back who played it back onto his keeper and into the net – after some discussion it was declared a goal (and it certainly was). So Cathy's first goal was bizzare but she deserved it. (NB. Steve didn't deserve any of his........are you reading this Steve? – I set them all up (not).). Pretty good game all round really, we're still a bit crappy in spots and I took the wrong options most of the night. Perhaps playing the game before ours wasn't wise. Otherwise, all those that played had good games.

9:20 next week folks V Bulimba. We're still missing you Darryl - come play Fullback.

Final Score 7–3.
