Match Report

Opposition: Storm

Date: 25-May-2004

Time: 9:20pm

This time around we had 9 players (6 healthy) and borrowed one (Thanks Jeff of Storm). Some walking wounded though as we nursed injuries around the field. The structure was altered with the wounded playing in the defence which may have not been such a good idea as Storm put two past us and if it wasn't for Rickies efforts it could have been more. See Below:-

1st half.

We didn't start with quite so much as a rush this night - mainly due to them starting with the ball and our defence being crap (John and I) as we shared one good leg between us. We had several opportunites that went begging despite our total lack of speed (and committment) all over the park – I think we were taking this very easy for the most part as a win was almost inevitable, after all they are coming last. Not entirely sure who scored our two goals in this half, I think Greg started the scoring off and then Wayne put a goal in from a good centring pass from Greg. A total cockup on someones behalf (okay, okay, John - he kicked it......) saw them score a goal and this is how we went into the break.

Half time score 2–1

The break saw us chat a wee bit about our effort - total lack of it, and some discussions about Stephens and Davids parents - whom taught whom to do what. Some brief discussion about Ipswich winning the over 45's but not much about our current game . No change to our personnel although by this time Darryl was carrying an injury too so we now had three defensive players sharing 2 legs and one offensive playing with one arm.

2nd Half

Shorthly after the re-start they snuck in the equaliser (this might be the most goals Storm have scored in one game this year). They were playing well and we were struggling to mark up in defence as we could only hobble about. In attack we simply moved the ball about and looked for an opening without doing too much work. David (AKA Andrew) got a good goal to get us in the lead again and Rickie kept it that way by doing some great saves as John, Darryl and I left him some work to do. Darryl helped out by saving some shots on the line. We mucked about and tested each others patience and trapping. For those who haven't played for a while (read Greg) his golfing hasn't improved his trapping. Steve managed to hit the crossbar as he was getting his ranging shots in leading up to the final goal which saw us finish 4–2 up.

Another really, really slow game. We'll have to pick it up for the game against Easts next week at 7:00pm as they look as though they have dropped their second team and this'll mean some players coming back into this team. We will be short the Sawyers and possibly Darryl. Rickie was going to have a night off but has decided to attend classes at the goal (haven't you Rickie!). Hopefully our injuries will have healed a bit before next Tuesday - I'm damned certain that I am not playing this weekend under any circumstances, I reckon I'll be walking by Tuesday next month.

Final Score 4–2.
