What is the history of G.James Extrusion? G.James have been extruding aluminium since 1981 and have successfully serviced the marine, heavy transport, building & construction markets plus many other industries including exporting. Further information can be found in the G.James Extrusion Corporate Profile 376Kb.Why use aluminium instead of steel? Aluminium is a lightweight alternative, weighing approximately one-third that of steel. While aluminium does not have the same tensile properties as steel, it will not oxidise as vigorously as steel, making aluminium the material of choice for salt water environments. What are the limits to extruding a shape? G.James can currently extrude sections up to 13 kg/mtr in weight and up to 330mm in width. Please contact an Account Manager for more information on our extrusion capabilities. If you would like further information, our Extrusion Sales Department will be only too happy to assist. Does G. James extrude aluminium alloys that are suitable for the marine and transport industry? Yes. G.James extrudes 6082, 6351, 6061 and 6005A alloys, which are suitable for the heavy transport industry. Most of our 6000 Series alloys are used in the marine industry however 6082 alloy is used for certified shipbuilding. How do I obtain a price for a new extrusion, profile or shape? Please contact your nearest G.James Extrusion branch for more information, or send an email to our Extrusion Sales Department What is Powder Coating? Powder coating is an electrostatic process whereby electrically charged paint particles in the form of a powder are sprayed onto the surface of pre-treated aluminium. Once applied, the aluminium is then baked in an oven to achieve a highly durable, painted (powder coated) finish. Which finish is more durable - Anodising or Powder Coating? Anodising is a more durable surface finish as the process involves controlled oxidisation of the aluminium's own surface which results in a much harder finish. Are different grades of both anodising and powder-coating available? Yes, powder coated surface finishes are available in standard and high grade powders. G.James also apply fluorocarbon products where the lifespan of the painted finish is of critical importance. Anodising is available in various thicknesses from AA10 micron (um), up to AA25 micron (um) for more demanding applications. |
