Non-Reflective

The visible light reflection of non-reflective glass is less than 2%, compared to 7% for ordinary clear glass. Offering excellent visual clarity and improved transparency, this product is ideal for promoting products from street level where often glare and other reflections obscure the inside aspect of commercial premises.

During the manufacture of this product, an anti-reflective coating is applied to both the exterior and interior surfaces of the glass, and working in unison, these two coatings reduce the overall reflectivity of the glass. Non-reflective glass can be used in both exterior and interior applications including showrooms, shopfronts and display cases.

G.James supplies both the OptiView1 (laminated glass) and Amiran2 range of non-reflective glass products.

1 OptiView is a registered trade name of Pilkington Australia
2 Amiran is a registered trade name of Schott Glas

Fire Rated

Fire rated glass is available in many forms, all providing a non-combustible, protective barrier in the event of fire. This type of glass forms an important and integral component of a complete fire rated window or door system. The Building Code of Australia details specific glazing requirements to ensure fire rated systems are tested to achieve a certified Fire Resistant Level (FRL).

G.James offers a range of both insulated and non-insulated fire rated glass including:

  • Firelite
  • Pyrostop
  • Pyroshield
  • Pyroswiss
  • Contraflam
  • Swissflam
  • Pyrobel

Heat Resistant

With low tensile strength and a relatively high rate of expansion, ordinary float glass is poor at resisting heat with a tendency to crack when subjected to temperatures of between 50-60°C. G.James offers a range of heat resistant glass products which are designed to tolerate thermal stress (heat).

Toughened Glass has high surface compressive stresses allowing a thermal gradient of 290°C on one side and ambient temperature on the other to be tolerated. Toughened glass is generally used in oven doors and cooktops.

Borafloat is a ultra-clear glass ceramic with a very low thermal expansion capable of withstanding temperatures up to 500°C. In addition, the chemical resistance of Borafloat, even at temperatures at 100°C is better than most metals.

Robax is a brownish coloured glass ceramic capable of tolerating temperature and thermal shock up to 700°C. Robax is generally used in wood heaters.

Firelite is a transparent crystallised glass with a thermal expansion coefficient of almost zero. Firelite can resist being heated to 800°C and then doused with ice water.

Self-Cleaning

Self-cleaning glass has a durable, transparent coating which is glazed to the exterior of the building and uses UV from the sun and rainfall to clean itself.

The coating is 'activated' by UV rays and gradually breaks down organic dirt on the glass surface through a process called the photocatalytic effect. The coating is hydrophilic, so when rain or water hits the glass instead of droplets forming, it spreads or sheets into a thin film across the glass which dries without spotting.

G.James supplies Activ1 self cleaning glass as a clear or toned laminated glass.

1Activ is a registered trade name of Pilkington.

Switchable

Switchable glass is a laminated product that transforms clear glass into an opaque, non-transparent screen with the flick of a switch. This allows the user to control vision and privacy or regulate daylight as desired.

This glass is a laminated product which uses liquid crystals encapsulated within the interlayer. When inactive, the crystals are randomly scattered rendering the glass opaque. When switched on, the liquid crystals align themselves allowing light to transmit through the glass.

Switchable glass is ideal for use in boardrooms, internal partitions, shopfronts or as a high clarity large projection screen.
