| Toughened Glass
Toughened glass is up to five times stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness. It qualifies as a Grade 'A' Safety Glass as the nature of the product is to fracture into relatively small harmless particles when broken.
The heat treatment process required to achieve toughened glass increases the mechanical strength of the glass providing greater resistance to wind load (or pressure), thermal fracture and human impact. Toughening (or heat treating) the glass does not alter the optical or visual properties of the glass.
Toughened glass cannot be cut, drilled or edge worked in anyway once heat treated. Therefore it is important to ensure all dimensions are correct and processing is completed prior to installation.
G.James specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of toughened glass assemblies, shopfronts, entrances, partitions and showerscreens. Due to many different designs and site conditions, the specialised nature of this product requires direct consultation with a G.James representative.
G.James also offers heat strengthened glass and heat soak testing.
Size limitations for G.James heat treated glass:
- For glass thicknesses 3mm to 19mm: 2440mm x 5000mm
- For glass thicknesses >19mm to 25mm: 1500mm x 5100mm
For further information on toughened glass includng manufacturing guidelines refer to Section 4 of the G.James Glass Handbook 4,667Kb.
