Q. Why should I buy G.James windows and doors ?

A. In the majority of houses, little thought is ever given to windows and doors prior to construction. It is often only when the house is occupied do the owners realise they should have known more about the window supplier and their products. At G.James, we believe in offering our customers practical advice, quality products and value-for-money features PDF 71Kb. So before you finalise your plans and select your window supplier, we invite you to visit our showroom and to simply, COMPARE. Remember quality is not expensive - it's priceless.
Q. What should I consider before choosing a window supplier ?

A. Before selecting your window supplier we recommend asking the following questions:
  1. Are their windows tested in a NATA certified laboratory ? (G.James - Yes)
  2. Are they a member of the Australian Window Association (AWA) ? (G.James - Yes)
  3. Do I have a variety of product, colour and glass options from which to choose ? (G.James - Yes)
  4. What features come as standard ? (G.James products are designed and manufactured to a 'standard' not a 'price'. View our individual product brochures to find out more about the many features G.James products offer - then compare them with our competitors.)
  5. Are they a 'one-stop' shop for all my windows, doors and glazing requirements including fly / security screens, wardrobe doors, shower screens, glass splashbacks and after sales service ? (G.James - Yes)
  6. Are you dealing with a well established, reputable company that will honour warranty claims and have available spare parts years down the track ? (G.James has been established since 1917 and we are proud of our reputation within the building and construction industry which is evidenced by our many loyal and long-standing customers.)

Q. What are the best windows for my house ?

A. At the planning stage of any new home, the home owners should take into account the following:
  1. What windows face the east and west ? Special consideration should be given to using a solar control glass in these window to maximise light, minimise heat gain and improve the overall comfort level of the home.
  2. Is the operation of the window suitable ? There are more styles of windows available than just the standard sliding window. You might want to consider the vertical sliding action of double hungs for your servery area, or use louvre windows to maximise ventilation. Use the windows and doors to give your home character, remembering its too late once your home is built.
  3. Will the doors out onto our entertainment area provide a big enough opening for what we need ? If not, then what about using multi-stack sliders or bi-folds to create a wider, more accessible entry ?

G.James welcomes your inquiry and is pleased to offer advice on the best options for your windows and doors without obligation.
Q. Which finish is more durable - Anodising or Powder Coating ?

A. Anodising is a more durable surface finish as the process involves controlled oxidisation of the aluminium's own surface which results in a much harder finish.
Q. What can I do if my windows and/or doors are hard to operate ?

A. Normally this occurs due to dirt or plaster dust build-up on the tracks and/or in the rollers. Newly constructed houses can often have solidified pieces of cement or dust particles which settle on the sill track and affect the action of the rollers. It is important to keep your tracks clean at all times.

You should also remember that stiffness in the sliding action of a window/door can be due to the weatherseals fitted to the product. Weatherseals bridge the gaps between the sliding panels and the frame, and act like a brush to not only resist (inside) penetration of wind and rain but also to allow the window to slide. Often the thicker the weatherseal, the higher the performance, the stiffer the window will be to slide. Should you have any operational issues with your G.James windows or doors, do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.
Q. What warranty / guarantee do I receive with my windows ?

A. The G.James Guarantee PDF 94Kb
Q. Are 'double glazed' windows the best way of controlling unwanted noise ?

A. This is a common misconception. A more practical and economical alternative is ensure the windows are fitted with acoustic seals and glazed with a laminated glass (which is constructed with a sound dampening PVB interlayer). For 'double glazing' to be an effective sound control measure a large air gap of around 100mm between the glass is necessary. G.James has conducted extensive acoustic testing on many of our standard products and can access this data to assist with your situation.
